Treating Air - Treating Earth

A rising threat: polluted indoor air quality

Dirty air isn’t just an outdoor problem — it invades our homes, schools, and offices, impacting our lives in more ways than you might realize:

  • Harming Your Health: Dirty air can trigger asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, and even cancer. Fine particles (PM2.5, particles whose diameters are less than 2.5 microns) go straight to your bloodstream, silently harming your body.
  • Affecting Your Mind: Studies show that polluted air may cause anxiety, depression, and even hinder your focus and brain function. It’s a hidden culprit affecting productivity and mental clarity.
  • Damaging Your Environment: Smog and acid rain don’t just ruin views — they destroy ecosystems, erode soil, and contaminate water sources.
  • Hitting Your Wallet: Medical bills and lost productivity due to poor air quality cost families and businesses more than you might think.

The World Health Organization (WHO) states, 'Household air pollution was responsible for an estimated 3.2 million deaths per year in 2020, including over 237 000 deaths of children under the age of 5. The combined effects of ambient air pollution and household air pollution are associated with 6.7 million premature deaths annually.' It also suggests that women and children are the most affected by indoor air pollution.

Air pollution is sometimes the root of other diseases or medical damages, including heart strokes, strokes, diabetes, asthma, cancer, heart and lung diseases, and bronchitis, according to Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Moreover, the World Economic Forum (weforum) asserts that the impact of PM2.5 causing asthma can result in an economic damage of a few hundren billion dollars.
